Emily Laird is a freelance dance artist based in Phoenix, Arizona. After moving to the Valley from Detroit, Michigan, Emily received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in dance performance from Arizona State University. Emily has worked professionally with Zoe Scofield, Michael Spencer Phillips, and Jordan Daniels. Currently, she is in her third season with CONDER/dance, under the direction of Carley Conder. In 2019, Emily was invited to perform her choreography at the Jacob’s Pillow Inside/Out performance series. Her creative work is strongly rooted in poetic language and she highly values vulnerability and spontaneity. She finds major influence from Pina Bausch and her passion to share experiences with audiences. Emily believes there is major value in the humanity that dance preserves and continues to develop. These experiences and values will remain as a support to Emily in the future as she aims to further build her identity as an independent artist. As well as performing, Emily intends to continue pursuing her choreographic interests and further investigate her curiosities.
